People's mood is not stable in time. Every now and then we feel happy or sad because of some external action. For example, if you get an unexpected compliment or become promoted you become absolutely happy. And vice versa, in case you see that it's not your day and everything is not as you planned you're completely sad and disappointed with your life. In some cases your mood doesn't depend on what is happening around you, and your mood is in accordance with your internal state. To be sad from time to time is normal. The problem is that for some people this moodiness becomes usual state of mind. A constant state of aversion to activity and low mood that can affect people's behavior, feelings and physical well-being is called depression. Depression disorder is not just a caprice of a person, it's a grave medical dysfunction. It is unlikely to clear up of its own accord, you'll have to see a physician and to take some medical products in order to overcome this dysfunction. The signs and symptoms of depression are usually characterized as feelings of anxiety, sadness, emptiness, hopelessness and worthlessness. Sometimes people in depression even feel guilt and restlessness. It's also particular for depressed people to lose interest to different activities, to become indifferent to what's going on around them. Depressed people even find it difficult to concentrate on something particular and to remember details as well. Energy loss, fatigue and insomnia are also common symptoms of depression. The most widespread treatment for depression is psychotherapy together with administration of antidepressant medicines. The action of most antidepressants is based on slowdown of the process of elimination of certain chemical substances from brain. These chemical substances are named neuromediators and they are important for regular brain activity. Antidepressants keep neurotransmitters in human brain for longer period of time, and thus the state of mind of a depressed person is normalized. Antidepressant drugs are generally taken during four to six months. But due to their active interaction with other drugs you should visit a doctor before taking this or that type of antidepressants.
